Arsenal are considering a move for Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana amid speculation over Bernd Leno’s future. The Gunners are ready to address their goalkeeping situation again this summer and Onana has emerged as a target. Arsenal were first interested in a move in him ahead of the January transfer window when they were looking to strengthen the position. Alex Runarsson had failed to impress after his arrival at the club and Gunners chiefs recognised they needed a better replacement for Emiliano Martinez – who left for Aston Villa in September.

Onana, 25, fit the bill but funds were not available to seal the signing, with the club loaning Mat Ryan instead. However, they are interested in resurrecting that interest again, according to Goal, with a deal set to cost around £7million. A decision on whether they will attempt to land him will be postponed until June, though, with Onana currently serving a 12-month suspension.

He is appealing a doping ban after he was found to have banned substance Furosemide in a urine sample. Onana claims he failed the out-of-competition doping test because he accidentally took medicine prescribed to his wife. The Court of Arbitration for Sport will hear his appeal in June, with the verdict due the same month. HIs lawyers are confident the ban will be reduced to just eight months and that could pave the way for a move to the Emirates. The future of Leno remains up in the air. The German goalkeeper admitted he was ‘open to anything’ when asked about his future and hasn’t given a clear signal he wants to stay.

‘I am very happy at the club,’ said Leno. ‘I don’t know what will come in the future. But I am open to everything. Maybe for a new adventure or to stay at Arsenal.  ‘At the moment I don’t think about my future because two years is still a long time. There are no conversations with the club.’ He has two years left on his current deal and talks over an extension are yet to begin. Ajax want £12million for Onana but the Gunners are confident they could get that price down given his contract is due to expire in 2022.
