Ben Chilwell has detailed what it’s like working under Chelsea’s ‘very, very demanding’ manager Thomas Tuchel. Since the German boss took over from Frank Lampard at the end of January, the Blues have managed to climb up into the top four and secure their place in both FA Cup and Champions League finals. Chelsea had to overcome Atletico Madrid, Porto and Real Madrid in the knockout stages of Europe’s premier competition to book a meeting with Manchester City in the final on May 29.
Tuchel’s side have been particularly solid in defence having kept 18 clean sheets in the 24 games across all competitions since his arrival at Stamford Bridge
And speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Blues left-back Chilwell praised the approach of his manager. ‘He’s a very, very demanding manager which is what you want,’ Chilwell said. ‘He pushes us every day. If you’re not on it he will tell you and if you are doing well he will give you the confidence. ‘When you have a manager that you know will tell you the truth it’s what you want, because you know where you need to improve, you know what you’re doing well. ‘Training is just really good and when we go into games we’re feeling fresh, we’re feeling fit, because training is so intense that when we come into matchdays we know we’re ready.
It’s a team which is so together. ‘There are a lot of leaders in this team and if there is a discussion that needs to be had when something is not right then the discussion gets had the next day, which I think is so key to having a successful team.’
