Manchester United have made contact with Getafe over a possible move for midfielder Mauro Arambarri. Having secured the future of Edinson Cavani for another year, United are eager to strengthen other areas of their team ahead of next season with a new centre-half and a right winger thought to be high up on their list of priorities. The club are also reportedly considering strengthening in midfield with AS reporting serious interest from Old Trafford in Uruguay international Arambarri. United have informed Getafe of their interest ahead of the summer transfer window with AS adding the player fits the profile of player Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to add to his squad.
Arambarri has a release clause of €25m with Atletico Madrid also keen on the midfielder. The 25-year-old has made 34 appearances for Getafe this season, scoring three goals.
United have also been linked with a move for West Ham United star Declan Rice heading into the summer with former club captain Roy Keane recently highlighting the need for some serious upgrades on current options Scott McTominay and Fred. ‘All United’s shortcomings have been shown up in the last couple of days,’ Keane told Sky Sports after the pair struggled in Wednesday’s 4-2 defeat to Liverpool.
‘Tonight there wasn’t enough quality. But the other worry is Liverpool could have scored six or seven. We have praised United the past few months but this squad is so short of competing with Man City for title. ‘I just look at the performance tonight of the two midfielders. McTominay is a good honest player, and they’ve got Fred. ‘As long as those two players are playing in midfield for Manchester United, they will not be winning any big trophies.’
