Paul Pogba has sent a Premier League title warning to Manchester City.
Manchester United are currently 10 points behind the league leaders, and while the Reds’ unexpected title challenge prematurely ended this campaign, Pogba is confident they can close the gap next season.
With five games left to play in the Premier League, United look set to finish in the runners-up position, but with another few shrewd additions in the transfer market it’s feasible Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could end the club’s eight-year wait for a league title next term.
Of course, that also hinges on United addressing Pogba ‘s future – his current deal expires at the end of next season – but the World Cup winner’s recent comments could suggest he’s not leaving Old Trafford anytime soon.
“We are getting closer and closer,” Pogba explained to BBC’s Football Focus when asked about bridging the gap to City.
“We see that we were struggling a little bit, we know that, but we don’t have to look back. We have to look forward. What’s forward now is second [place], now we get closer to City, who were, before, to be honest way ahead of us.
“Now we show them that we can compete. We show that we are here and that we have a team to go and win the title. It’s just a few details. We can do it, for sure.
“Liverpool did it, City did it and now we’re there. We have to show that we can make it as well. That’s the next goal.”
