Thomas Tuchel insists Arsenal did not ‘deserve’ their win over Chelsea and the result was ‘totally lucky’. The Chelsea manager was unhappy with the ‘total gift’ from Jorginho that allowed Emile Smith Rowe to score the game’s only goal and was left frustrated with his side’s lack of concentration. He was in no mood to claim Arsenal had earned their victory, though, and pinned the result purely on his own team’s failings. ‘It’s easy to say this is a totally lucky win and nobody can argue with that,’ Tuchel said in his post-match press conference.
It is not a deserved win, not at all for Arsenal. ‘But I don’t want to go there for 100% because we all lacked concentration, we lacked focus. That is very unusual.
‘Maybe I also gave some signals to the team with changes that Saturday is on my mind. ‘This is not how we approach things and you get punished. So we suffer now from another defeat. ‘It’s hard to swallow, hard to accept. But there’s no other way.’
The result will give West Ham and Liverpool hope in their last-ditch pursuit of top-four football. Should the Hammers win their game in hand, they will be three points behind the Blues, while Liverpool can move to within a point should they win their two matches in hand. The first of those two matches comes tomorrow night against Manchester United.
