Donny van de Beek offered to Barcelona with Man Utd midfielder eager to join La Liga giants

Donny van de Beek has been offered to Barcelona with the Manchester United midfielder said to be eager to make the move to the Camp Nou.

The Dutchman joined United in a deal worth £35m last summer but endured a difficult first season in the Premier League

Van de Beek was limited to just 15 starting appearances – just four of those in the league – as he struggled to break into the first-team under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, sparking speculation over his long-term future at Old Trafford.

A recent report from the Telegraph claimed Van de Beek’s patience at the club is now wearing thin with the former Ajax star surprised and concerned over the lack of opportunities afforded to him.

His representatives would now appear to be seeking alternative solutions and have offered the 24-year-old to Barcelona following their failed attempts to sign another Dutchman in Georginio Wijnaldum – who rejected the Catalan giants for a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Sport claim van de Beek would be ‘delighted’ to make the move to the La Liga giants, one that would see him link up with former Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong.

Barcelona are yet to definitively respond to the offer but the report suggests the club are keen to bring in a more defensively-minded midfielder and are likely to look elsewhere.

Multiple figures in Dutch football have urged van de Beek to leave United over the past year including former Tottenham star Rafael van der Vaart, who recently insisted his countryman is ‘far too good’ to be sat on the bench.
