Florentino Perez has cast the blame on Juan Mata’s exit from Real Madrid on club legend, Michel.
The Manchester United midfielder came through the ranks at Real Madrid and featured regularly for the club’s second team, Castilla.
However, before he could break into the first team, the Spanish international decided to make a switch and sign for La Liga rivals Valencia back in 2007.
In a newly released tape by El Confidencial from 2009, Perez is quoted blasting former Madrid legend, Michel, and claimed he was responsible for allowing Mata to slip through the cracks at the Spanish club by favouring his son instead.
“I think Michel is the one who made the hole for Mata [to leave], he is the one who threw him out of Real Madrid Castilla to put his son in the team,” Perez claimed in the leaked footage.
“He is a fraud!”
He’s made 271 appearances in the Premier League scoring 51 goals and registering 64 assists and winning the league with Chelsea, as well as a Champions League and two FA Cups trophies — one with United.
Mata, now 33, has recently signed a contract extension with United which will keep him at Old Trafford until next summer
