Manchester United welcomed two players back to pre-season training as their preparation continues ahead of the new season.
Jesse Lingard and youngster Hannibal Mejbri reported to Carrington on Friday ahead of United’s first friendly of the summer against Derby County on Sunday.
After a brilliant loan spell at West Ham in the second-half of last term, Lingard was back in training as speculation continues to surround his future at the club.
The Hammers want to sign the 28 year old on a permanent deal after he scored nine goals and created four more in 16 appearances last season.
Lingard was part of the initial 33-man England squad for Euro 2020 but despite appearing in the warm-up friendlies against Austria and Romania he didn’t make the final cut for the tournament.
His return to the squad was delayed by a well-earned break in Mykonos, as he was forced to isolate on his return from the holiday where he met up with Anthony Martial and former team-mate Ashley Young.
Lingard had originally told the Lions Den ahead of England’s Euro 2020 final against Italy that he had a negative Covid-19 test and was to return to training on Monday, but his return was delayed further until Friday’s session.
Mejbri was also given extra time off ahead of joining up with pre-season training following his involvement with the Tunisian national team.
The 18 year old made his senior debut in a victory over Wolves on the final day of the last Premier League season and enjoyed more success with his inaugural call-up for Tunisia.
MEN Sport understands the teenage attacking talent will get the chance to showcase his talents to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this summer and could even earn a promotion to the first-team set-up if he does enough to impress.
