Raphael Varane is happy to wait another season to complete his potential transfer to Manchester United.
That is according to Spanish outlet Marca who report Varane has no problem waiting another year to move to Old Trafford if United and Real Madrid can’t agree on a transfer fee for his proposed switch – Varane’s contract at Bernabeu is set to expire in June 2022.
Obviously, that would mean Varane, 28, could eventually join United on a free transfer, but truthfully, if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to mount a serious title charge next campaign, finding Harry Maguire an elite centre-back partner is required now, not next season.
The MEN revealed earlier this week that United are close to agreeing personal terms with Varane, but that’s arguably the easiest stumbling block to overcome considering it’s said that the player wants a new challenge after 10 years playing for Madrid.
Now, this rumour should be approached with a degree of scepticism considering Barcelona’s financial troubles, but Sport have claimed United are one of few clubs that could sign Antoine Griezmann, who scored 20 goals across all competitions this season.
Solskjaer refused to rule out signing another striker after Edinson Cavani’s contract extension at the club was announced.
Finally, The Athletic report United are interested in signing Everton youngster Thierry Small and it’s claimed the 16-year-old left-back is keen to leave Goodison Park for pastures new, although that the Reds could face competition from Arsenal for his signature.
